The Timbavati Private Game Reserve is a wildlife-rich concession of land that adjoins the western border of the Kruger National Park forming a unique combination of public and private lands called "The Greater Kruger Park".
There are no fences between the Timbavati and the Kruger National Park which allows free movement of wildlife between the Reserves.
Simbavati River Lodge is situated in the northern sector of the Timbavati Nature Reserve, on a site previously known as Gomo Gomo.
Getting there by air:
There are daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg International Airport to Hoedspruit Airport. Transfers to the lodge take approximately 1 hour and must be booked separately.
Clients flying directly into the private landing strips of the Timbavati Nature reserve will be picked up by a safari ranger from the nearby landing strip.
Getting there by train:
Clients choosing to come by train can make use of the new Premiere Classe route from Johannesburg/Pretoria/Nelspruit to Hoedspruit station. Transfers to the lodge take approximately 1 hour and must be booked separately.
Getting there by road:
Simbavati River Lodge is a 6 hour Drive from Johannesburg.
Follow the tar road from the Eastgate Airport/Timbavati turn-off for 44 km straight to the Simbavati turn-off. (GPRS coordinates for the Simbavati turn-off: S 24° 12’ 20.2” E 31° 19’ 24.2”). Turn right onto the dirt road and follow the lion footprints for ¬¬±6,4 km to the lodge. (On the tar road you will go through 2 control gates. At the second gate you enter the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve where you will have to pay a conservation fee of R120 per vehicle and R110 per person.)
